From the Mountains to the Shore

Waking up to blue skies and this view makes it easy to leap out of bed (nothing to do with the promise of Reblochon for breakfast...)

After scarfing down industrial quantities of cheese - and more croissants than I care to remember - we set off up the mountain behind the chalet to get our blood pumping and take in the views from the peak.

A gentle stroll quickly turned in to a steep wooded scramble when we decided to take the 'direct' (read straight up the side of a mountain) path to the summit.

But the view when we emerged out the top beyond the tree line was entirely worth the sweat.

After drinking in the panoramic views we made our way down the actual path (a significantly more relaxed and winding affair than the straight cut we made up to the top). By the time we got back to the chalet it was time to get cracking on our round-the-lake road trip so into the car so with sad farewells to our lovely host we left to make tracks back towards Swizerland, and down to the water

via a little stop to stretch our legs at Chateau de Ripaille

Before lunch in Thonon-Les-Bains, where Jon spent his teenage summers as a waiter in lakeside auberges.

And cooling off with a happy afternoon paddle, and some lakeside sunshine basking.

Before heading off down down the coast road to Montreaux.

Location: St Jean Sixt, Thonnon-les-Bains, Lac Lemans - All France
